My 4 cents worth understanding Art. 1. The Person: Get a glimpse of who they were and the lives that they led. Start with Mark Rothko and Egon Schiele. Look at their lives and then their art. You'll see the correlation. The artwork is the biography.2. The Times and Places: Get a glimpse of their times. For example, when did Ferdnand Leger paint and how was society changing during his times? Do his tubular bodies remind you of anything(e.g. factories, smokestacks...)? This is particularly so for movements like Futurism. How did the Industrial era affect art? 3. Sophia: Get a glimpse ... and a glimpse only is enough ... of the philosophical underpinnings of the art. I recommend just a glimpse because it has seemed to me in times past that the philosophical foundations behind some art is quite tenous(e.g. Constructivism). 4. There is more... cant remember right now. |
I dont exactly know what it is about fashion that draws me to it. Its not like I can analyze the cuts and fabric and stuff. And there is so much... just so much that I just simply cannot react to, esp. androgenous clothing. Nor do I react to all those models, who are really just "stereotypically beautiful". However, when I see someone on the streets dressed really well, my right hand tenses, and I have this urge to draw.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee Ever look at things in nature like the peacock or the beak of a toucan and just marvel at the colors? Mukherjee can do this. He can totally mix the most amazing colors on a dress(altho not in this set).
