So what do you see here in this painting by Pollock ? Do you see randomness ? Chaos ? Is this good art or bad art ? What kind of a message does it convey ? Does it make a statement about reality ?
I like Pollocks art, because it does a couple of things for me. When I look at his artwork, what I see is the Universe in its entirety... And I can get totally lost in some of the parts of the Universe. Do you see the Universe, when you look at it ? Do you see the stars, galaxies, spiral galaxies, planets, and all kinds of things, that cannot even be described properly ? What do you see ? Jackson Pollock may not have intended any of this, but that does not mean that we cannot see any of it.
R.C. Sproul says in his book Lifeviews, "I think that a christian may use many different forms of a painting, but we need to be aware that sometimes the form of a painting itself is a part of the message. When formlessness or the chaotic is the structure of the painting, that, in itself, is a statement that reality is ultimately chaotic."
