AESTHETICS-I. my favorite philosophical subject.

Consider the following...

Is beauty objective or subjective or both ? What would be the case if beauty/art were objective and objective only. Then it would be the case that every object of art would have a certian set value. A value that would be independent of what we thought of it. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest(best), a certain work of art could have a certain numerical value associated with it, that would be true of it regardless of how or what we felt about it.

We would also be able to take tests/exams regarding subjects of an aesthetic nature, and we could possibly pass or fail them. These exams would be no different than the exams we take in Biochemistry, Physiology, etc... Indeed, it would be a strange world that we live in. A Professor could give you an exam where you would be asked if Cindy Crawford was beautiful or not, whether the Taj Mahal is ugly or not, and so forth and you could fail this exam because you said "True" -Cindy C is beaufiful, and the correct answer was "False".

As I write this, I am reminded of someting else...back in High School, I used to go around rating women. "She's hot !, I'd give her a 9.5.". Perhaps there is some basis to this.

Q's:

Think about the ramifications of this. How does the objectivity of Art relate to Free-Will and Morality ? Furthermore, Does this mean that the statement "Art is objective" is incorrect ?

BTW, Altho, I havent seen the Taj in person, I dont find it to be particularly fetching.
